Commanders fire employee who called NFL players ‘dumb as hell’ homophobes

The Washington Commanders have fired an employee after he was shown making derogatory comments about players and fans in undercover video posted on social media.
A team spokesperson said on Thursday that vice president of content Rael Enteen is no longer with the team. Enteen was initially suspended after he said on video posted by O’Keefe Media Group that some players were “dumb as hell” and homophobic, and called fans “high school-educated alcoholics” and “mouth breathers.”
The team said on Wednesday after the post came to light that “the language used in the video runs counter to our values at the Commanders organization.”
James O’Keefe, who founded the company last year, told the Associated Press on Wednesday the videos were taken during two dates in June in Washington. O’Keefe said Enteen and the woman who filmed the interactions met on a dating app.
Enteen said on the video that “over 50% of our roster is white religious, and God says, ‘Fuck the gays.’ Their interpretation. I don’t buy any of that. Another big chunk is low-income African Americans that comes from a community that is inherently very homophobic.”
He added: “The remaining, let’s say even say it’s 49%, are not necessarily homophobic but that doesn’t mean they want to go on record with a video saying ‘come out to a pride parade’”
Enteen was also filmed criticizing NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He called Goodell “a $50m puppet” and the league’s social justice efforts performative.
Enteen, who had been with the team since 2020, also said in the video that he believes Jones “hates gay people and Black people.”
In the video, Enteen says that “I don’t think the commissioner of the NFL hates gay people, hates Black people. Jerry Jones, who really runs the NFL, I think he hates gay people, Black people.”
The Cowboys did not respond to a request for comment.
